Holiness in the Salesian Family

“In the lives of the Saints, God shows himself to us and speaks through them. Let us entrust ourselves to them, seeking example in their lives and help in their intercession, certain of sharing with them in the one community of the Church.” (FMA Constitutions, Article 45).

It has been just 150 years since the times of Don Bosco, and in those 150 years, the Salesian Family has over 118 Saints, Blesseds, Venerables, and Servants of God. These people come from all walks of life, but are part of Don Bosco’s way of doing little things for God with great joy and simplicity. If you are serious about becoming a saint, then the Salesian way might just be the way for you!

Don Bosco’s educational system, called the Preventive System, is how the Salesian Sisters have continued to work with young people, since their foundation. This spirituality is a method of instruction, of living community and of becoming saints - and time and experience have proven this true. In the course of 150 years, this method has produced surprising results. Heroes, heroines and saints have remained almost unknown because they were able to live extraordinary lives in a very ordinary way. Sanctity is not something we claim, but it is a gratuitous participation in God’s holiness and is, therefore, a gift of grace. Holiness is the insertion of the whole person (mind, body, heart and soul) into the mysterious sphere of the goodness, gratuity and mercy of God’s love.
